Paje, Zanzibar

Pure beauty...

Long white sandy beaches, warm turquoise waters, beautiful scenery, calm and quiet, Zanzibar is a Must Go...

Enjoy the regular winds in a huge lagoon of a breathtaking beauty... Protected by a coral reef, the lagoon is huge, shallow and flat at low tide. It also offers nice waves on the reef... But what makes Zanzibar so special is not only the quality of the spot, but also the incredible beauty and calm which surround you everywhere.

The Spot

What to begin with ?... The huge lagoon, the flat water, the warmth, the waves that break on the reef, the water colors, the beauty of the scenery... It's impossible to describe this spot... but let's try !

The spot is a big coral lagoon (the reef is more than a kilometer away from the beach). One can stand everywhere. At low tide, small lagoons are created as the tide lowers, enough to give dreams to every freestyler. At high tide, the lagoon itself fills up and one can stand everywhere, which makes this spot ideal for everybody, whether a beginner, a freestyler or a freerider. A few obstacles, that can be spotted easily in the middle of the lagoon (at 500 m from the beach) are not a problem at all.

Long rides are possible on this lagoon, up to the reef or beyond, where those who like the waves will play endlessly ! Downwinders on the coral reef or just in the lagoon are very often organized.

The beach, with its white coral sand, is uninterrupted all along the lagoon. The water is (very) warm. Crystal clear, turquoise, it gives the spot incredible colors... The beauty of it is breathtaking !

The Wind

The wind blows at Paje during two different seasons. The first one, from mid-Decemberr till mid February, has a side-shore wind that comes from North-East. The second one, from mid/end June till mid September, has a side-shore wind coming from South-East.

The wind is very regular, between 15 and 20 knots, with from time to time peaks that can reach 25-30 knots.

Although Paje is very regularly swept by the wind, it happens that it falls for two or three days, once or twice a month, to better come back afterwards. But not a problem at all, if this happens during your stay, Zanzibar offers incredible attractions. And if you have wind everyday, you will anyway want a day « without » to enjoy all that surrounds you...

Zanzibar

Zanzibar is a 90 km long and 50 km wide island. With a tropical climate, it offers beautiful scenery and splendid tours.

You will be able to go swimming with dolphins on the south-east coast, trek on the spice route in the rainforest, walk with the monkeys under huge baobabs, go fishing on the open sea, go on a small cruise to the desert coral islands south of the island, dive along the coral reef or just walk along the huge white sandy beaches, and so much more !

Its capital, Stonetown, offers numerous historical visits, slavery museum, colonial houses, fish and spice markets...

Paje is on the south west coast of the island. Everything is within easy reach by taxi or scooter you can rent on the site.

Getting There

To get to Zanzibar, you can either fly there directly (Oman air, or charter flights from europe like Jetairfly, land in stone town, capital of Zanzibar), or fly to Dar-es-Salaam, capital of Tanzania, from were it's easy to take a transfer flight to Zanzibar.

Getting to Dar-es-Salaam is easy from more or less everywhere, as it is the biggest west African hub!
