Uruau, Brazil

The kitesurfing Mecca !

Brazil is and will stay as the preferred destination of all kiters ! Why ?
For the quality and variety of its spots, for the regularity of its wind, for the happiness of its people, for this magical country...

Uruau, a small village south of Fortaleza, offers all of the above without the crowd of better known destinations such as Cumbuco, Paracuru or Jericoacoara. A lagoon, the sea and an always present wind : everything is gathered on this magical spot !

No wonder world champions such as Aaron Hadlow, Alex Pastor and Seb Garat among others train there every year !

The Spot

Three spots are directly accessible from Uruau. The sea, a salt water lagoon and a fresh water lagoon between the dunes.

The two lagoons offer a totally flat spot, where one can stand everywhere, perfect for training whatever your level : first jumps, kiteloop, unhooking or to go big like Youri Zoon ! The lagoon between the dunes is about one kilometer from the hotel, but easily accessible with any of the numerous buggies available. Big and spacious, it offers a beautiful scenery with the dunes and the surrounding vegetation. However, these dunes make the wind slightly irregular. The small lagoon against the sea is just next to the hotel. The wind comes directly from the sea, and thus stays stable. You can stand everywhere, which makes it perfect to try any trick !

The sea offers small waves, a long way apart from one another at low and mid tide, thus perfect to play either with the waves or between the waves ! At high tide, the waves break closer to the beach, which creates a shore-break making the spot slightly choppy, but not enough to be bothersome.

Furthermore, two other world class Brazilian spots are easily accessible: Parajuru and Barra Nova. Brazil's famous Beach Buggys will take you there easily for day trips or half day trips, or for the more audacious, downwinders in the Atlantic Ocean can take you to Barra Nova, or bring you back home from Parajuru!

The Wind

In Uruau, like everywhere else in north-east Brazil, during the season, there is wind 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All the time...

The season starts in July and ends in January. However, the wind is 100 % sure from August to beginning/mid December.

In Uruau, the advantage is that the wind is regular, just like a big fan. It blows between 15 and 20 knots, without any gust, just varying in strength from one day to another. It can however sometimes climb up to 25 knots, mainly during peak season, September/October.Now you've got it, in Uruau, no need to check the weather forecast : there is wind, and good wind !

Uruau

Uruau is a small fishing village along the Atlantic coast, a few kilometers south of Fortaleza, the big city of North East Brazil.

Mainly known in Brazil for its lagoons where the locals go swimming during Carnival, these same lagoons are kitesurfers' delight the rest of the year. The dunes that line them up give Uruau's surroundings an incredible appearance.

A fishing village, Uruau is calm, quiet and gives a true image of Brazil, unlike other better known spots.

For those who like to move around, all the spots south of Fortaleza are easily accessible within one day thanks to the beach buggies available all along the coast, most notably the Barra Nova river mouth, and Parajuru. Fortaleza itself is only 40 kilometers away, and thus it is very easy to reach the other spots north of Fortaleza, either by public transport or by rental car.

Your Hotel

Very quiet, Pousada Vidaboa is situated on the sea front, next to the kite spot, in this authentic small fishing village, in between huge sand dunes and the Atlantic ocean.

Vidaboa is a small pousada, build in real Brazilian style, with a family like atmosphere that will make you instantly feel at home there.
