Very close, very windy, and beautiful spot...
On top of being an incredible spot, Soma Bay's advantage lies in the fact that it is not far away ! Turquoise waters, regular wind and perfect stretch of water, all this close to Europe !
The spot also has a clear advantage when compared to other spots in Egypt : it is offshore, between two mountains, which means there is always a little of a thermal wind in the morning when everywhere else (El Gouna, Hurghada, Safaga, etc…) there is nothing.
The Spot
Soma Bay is the best spot in Egypt !
It is situated in a huge bay, and is protected by a coral reef outside. The water is crystal clear, you will see the fish under your board when riding ! Offshore whatever the configuration, the spot is always perfectly secure ! A rescue boat is always available anyway.
A big advantage as compared to the other Egyptian spots is that it is much less crowded ! The spot is huge… and the hotels very few.
Flat water under any circumstances , the first thing one thinks when discovering the spot from uphill, is that it is really beautiful… and the only thing you want to do is get your board, your kite and go for a ride !
The spot configuration is such that it suits everybody's needs ! Perfect spot for beginners thanks to the high tide lagoon, the freestylers will love the flat stretch of water, and long rides above the coral reefs on low tide will bring unforgettable memories… if you are lucky, even dolphins will come play with you on the other side of the bay !
The Wind
Soma Bay characteristics, when compared to other spots in Egypt, is that the wind is off-shore wind, and still is much more regular than on other Egyptian spots like Hurghada, El Gouna or Ras Sudr.
Although the wind is present all year long, the season really starts in April and ends in October. During these six months, it is very exceptional not to have wind, and never two days in a row ! Soma Bay has a very big advantage, which is that the bay is located between two mountains on the east and on the west of the spot, and the wind coming from north creates a tunnel effect which allows us to use the smallest breeze. The configuration also allows the spot to have a 20 knot thermal wind in the morning even if forecast is nil, and if it's dead calm above and under the spot…
The wind does not have a “mean” strength : it varies from day to day between 15 and 35 knots, but stays stable and regular throughout a day, although always a little stronger in the morning than in the afternoon. Perfect to try any possible trick, in any wind condition. !
And the spot stays flat under any wind conditions…

Getting There
